Entre amazonas e cientistas: representações da ciência em A Amazônia misteriosa, de Gastão Cruls

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the representations of science in the work of Gastão Cruls’s A Amazônia misteriosa (The mysterious Amazon). Therefore, start from the historical context of the end of nineteenth and the beginning of twentieth centuries, observing the transformations rising to the Industrial Revolution and the birth of new currents of thought, as the scientistic positivism. Furthermore, will be made the reflection about the literary production of the time, especially the work of Gastão Cruls, a writer who was left out of the great names in literature of the period, but can be situated within the Pre-Modernist movement, addition to being one of the first to produce science fiction in Brazil.
