| Resumo: | O presente trabalho está inserido na área de Literatura Inglesa e tem como objetivo analisar o comportamento da personagem Marianne Dashwood da obra Razão e Sensibilidade ([1811]2012), de Jane Austen, e mostrar, através da observação de sua conduta sentimental, que há um repúdio por parte da personagem em relação ao padrão de comportamento esperado da mulher na Inglaterra do século XIX. Tendo como base os textos Teoria dos Sentimentos Morais, de Adam Smith ([1759]2002) e A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, de Mary Wollstonecraft ([1792]2004), explora-se a representação da condição feminina nesta obra de Austen e como a personagem colabora para uma visão crítica e feminista do papel da mulher naquela sociedade através de sua extrema e crítica sensibilidade. |
| Abstract: | This work is inserted in the field of English Literature and aims to analyze the behaviour of the character Marianne Dashwood in the novel Sense and Sensibility ([1811]2012), written by Jane Austen, and to demonstrate, through an observation of her sentimental conduct, that there is a repudiation from the character in relation to the standard of behaviour expected from women in nineteenth-century England. Based on the texts Theory of Moral Sentiments, by Adam Smith ([1759] 2002) and A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, by Mary Wollstonecraft ([1792] 2004), this study explores the representation of the female condition in this book by Austen and the way the character contributes to a critical and feminist view of women's role in that society by means of her extreme and critical sensibility. |
