Abstract: The knowledge of soil water infiltration process has great importance for several areas of engineering. The Green-Ampt-Mein-Larson (GAML) model is one of the most used to find the rate of infiltration. The model is relatively simple, but the correct fit of its parameters is a important issue in its results and may not represent the actual situation found in the field. In this way, the aim of this work was to determine the infiltration rate of water in an exposed soil with high clay content, under different water-content conditions and compare the values of the infiltration rate obtained in the field with the mathematical model of GAML. Finally a theoretical infiltration curve adjusted with the best estimated value of hydraulic conductivity was obtained. The tests were carried out in Pato Branco - PR, with the use of the concentric rings infiltrometers at 8 sample points. The parameter of the hydraulic conductivity (K0) used in the GAML model is the stable infiltration rate (Tie) found in the field tests. With the subtraction between the soil porosity (n) of the water-content (θ) the moisture (Δθ) was found during the test. In order to obtain soil matric potential (Ψ), the analytical model of van Genuchten (1980) was used, which is a widely used parameter in the GAML equation. In order to obtain the suction head (Ψ), the analytical model of van Genuchten (1980) has been used, which is widely applied. To perform the statistical analysis of the errors found by the theoretical infiltration rate compared to the rate of infiltration obtained in the field, three statistical models were used: RMSE – Root Mean Squared Error, BIAS and MAE - Mean Absolute Error. According to the results of the BIAS, there is an overestimation of the values of the infiltration rate obtained by the GAML model in almost all the tests performed (except tests 2 and 7). The use of adjusted hydraulic conductivity (K0) with values close to 10-4 (cm / min), best fit the Green-Ampt-Mein-Larson equation to the different water-content of the soil found, forming a curve very close to the values obtained experimentally.
